Good morning! A week ago, we got new windows upstairs. Yay! Thanks Glenn! The windows appeared to be original to the house, and our townhouse was built in the early 70s. Yikes. The insulation was okay, but you could hear every word of people talking outside our house. And since we live right next to the park, people walk by in front of our house at all hours, usually chatting. And it sounded like they were in our house talking. Totally weird. But now we have new windows, and I don't have to hear people! So when we got new windows, they took down all the blinds, and our house was all bright and cheery from the sun! I took a few pictures around the house of some details and in progress projects. I thought you might enjoy them! This is our bedroom, with new sheets and duvet! We keep trying to buy comforters, but I get too dang hot when I sleep, so we can't use them. We finally decided to just give up and found this duvet for only $28 at our favorite store! The plum sheets...

Castle!

As you all know, I am a big television fan. I finally watched Firefly this semester (will write about it another time, it's a much too amazing show for a phone post!) and so of course now I adore Nathan Fillion. We wanted to watch another show that starred him, so we started watching Castle. Oh man. There are a lot of crime shows on TV, but this one is so much better! It's still pretty formulaic, but the acting is just hilarious and I love the characters. The only negative is that it isn't on instant watch! We actually have to wait to get the new disc. It's torture, but the show is worth it. Especially when a Firefly reference shows up.

Hi from my phone!

I'm testing out blogging from my phone! I wonder what happens when I add pictures? Here are 3 photos from the snow we had in December. Hopefully!

2012 Goals

Here are my goals for this year. I believe them to be reasonable and measurable. I love setting goals at the start of a year! 2012 Goals 1. Find the right job for me 2. Create something new every month 3. Continue decorating the townhouse 4. Exercise regularly and build my strength 5. Read 50+ books 6. Put things away (and turn off lights) 7. Live more disconnected and in the moment So the job. I might have my job cut AGAIN. So whether the right job for me is getting to keep this one or find something else, I'd like to do that. I had really hoped to keep this job for a few more years and maybe go part time in a few years, so we'll see if that works out. I'm just being open to what happens right now. Creativity! I have a sewing machine, and I finally know how to use it. I want to start using my time more constructively, rather than mindlessly surfing the internet or watching television. I'd like to create something every month. For sure I'll tak...

2011 Goals Update

Here were my goals from last year and how I did with accomplishing them! 1. Read 50+ books this year I did this and double! I ended up reading exactly 100 books this year. I decided since I'm a school librarian that I should be allowed to count picture books and graphic novels. It worked out great to get to double my goal! 2. Get to my (next) goal weight I didn't do this. But I did something better. I stopped focusing on the numbers (which makes me get a little obsessive and can make me extreme about things) and started focusing on what makes me feel good and confident. I stopped weighing myself a few months ago, and I'm really happy. I fit in my clothes, and I feel stronger. I might even weigh more than I did, but I feel beautiful and content and that is what matters. 3. Stay employed Done! 4. Memorize 24 scriptures Yeah, I sucked at this. I did like six, and then never thought about it again. My bad. 5. Be positive every day I think I did better at being p...

The Bar Snafu

Image
With the money from housesitting, we decided to buy this bar that we've been waiting to buy until we had extra money. We wanted a place to store some of our extra dishes, wine glasses, and of course, the alcohol. We got our bar from West Elm and took it home. Bonus, we got 10% off because they have a student discount! It was in pieces to put together, but one of the main ones was scratched. Ugh. Jason took it back and got the only other one they had in stock. We started trying to put it together at home and it was an utter disaster. The instructions were confusing and not very good. Jason put in the back piece and it was supposed to slide down. Only there was nothing to catch it, so it slid all the way down and landed on his foot. Ouch! Then the top shelf crashed down and completely broke the bottom shelf and ruined the side pieces. Needless to say... we were pissed. We have put together a TON of IKEA furniture. And believe me, IKEA furniture is a test of any relationship, and ...

Three good things

I forgot to post about it (I think), but we got in a hit and run accident in October. No one was hurt (in our car, which is good because we had our friend Loren with us) and the damage to the car was minimal. We drove home that night and we even waited until Thanksgiving break to get it fixed. But we had to pay our deductible, because hit and runs are treated like an uninsured driver in Colorado. Totally lame. Luckily, we had the $500 we needed to cover it in our savings account. No big deal. But amazingly, they caught the guy in a completely unrelated traffic stop, in like Kansas or something. So it's been a few months, but this week, we got our $500 back! Money we never thought we'd see again. We are thrilled! Here's the car after we got hit. The whole bumper was low. We got hit exactly on the license plate, which is why it's all bent up. Crazy, right? How about another car mishap? We were housesitting for our friends in Arvada, and it was crazy windy. It seem...
