Three good things
I forgot to post about it (I think), but we got in a hit and run accident in October. No one was hurt (in our car, which is good because we had our friend Loren with us) and the damage to the car was minimal. We drove home that night and we even waited until Thanksgiving break to get it fixed. But we had to pay our deductible, because hit and runs are treated like an uninsured driver in Colorado. Totally lame. Luckily, we had the $500 we needed to cover it in our savings account. No big deal. But amazingly, they caught the guy in a completely unrelated traffic stop, in like Kansas or something. So it's been a few months, but this week, we got our $500 back! Money we never thought we'd see again. We are thrilled!
How about another car mishap? We were housesitting for our friends in Arvada, and it was crazy windy. It seems like it's always windy up there when we housesit. There were gusts of 90 miles per hour. Totally nuts. Anyway, we hear a big crash in front of the house, so Jason goes to check on it. We had had a crazy day with our dog possibly swallowing something (AGAIN) and the other dogs freaking out about the weather. Jason came back in to tell me that the basketball goal fell on my car. I didn't know how to handle it (and my car is old so it's beat up anyway) and I just started laughing hysterically. It seemed like the funniest thing that could've happened. And here's the best part! It dented the roof of my car, but it was a couple of inches away from landing on my back window. Can you imagine the damage that would have done? Shattering my window during a wind storm? I am so thankful that the goal fell how it did! And bonus... our friends ended up paying us for housesitting (which we weren't expecting) and I think they gave us a little extra since it was so crazy. They are so incredibly generous.
And finally.... Jason is going to be published! He wrote an article for one of his classes last year and submitted it to be published in a journal. They finally got through the review process, and it will be in Issue 2 of the Journal of Applied Instructional Design! It's online, so I'll post a link to it when it gets published. Just in case you want to read about adult learning and video games. It's pretty cool.
Here's the car after we got hit. The whole bumper was low. We got hit exactly on the license plate, which is why it's all bent up. Crazy, right?

The dent. It's right by the black marks. Hard to see from this angle. See how close it was to hitting the window??
Here's the awesome scrape down the trunk. Orange from the rim!
