May scripture

I basically skipped all of April for my scripture memory verses. Oops. ;( I still had verses on my heart, but I didn't pick any new ones. Here's my new one for the first half of May! I hadn't really thought about what I was going to choose, but the verse that Beth posted on the Living Proof Ministries blog (the reason why I chose to memorize scripture on this particular calendar this year) was just what I need right now. My job is still up in the air, but the waiting is drawing to a close. I know the Lord will provide. 14 Wait patiently for the L ord . Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the L ord . Psalm 27:14, NLT

Down in the dumps

Well, I haven't blogged in a while because I've been a bit down. Logically, I should have come here and been positive, but I was making huge efforts in "real life" to be positive, so I didn't even feel like I had the energy. My job is up in the air again. There's no guarantee for employment next year, especially in my current position. I'm really bummed about it. Things will work out and I'll find another job if I need to, but it's not fun. Everyone around me has been so wonderful though. With so many of my coworkers that I've never even had spiritual conversations before, I've had conversations that have all ended in the other person telling me that they'll pray for me. It's awesome to see God show up like that in conversations. So we'll see. I'm trying to stay hopeful and positive, but I have my days. Like Tuesday when I just went for it and had ice cream for dinner. And Wednesday when I almost cried at our staff meeting b...

march.

I'm excited about my verse this month. Another blog that I read posted a couple of verses, and I was so encouraged by them. I'm going to spend some time in Proverbs 3 for the next verse or two. I know pieces of it from childhood, but I'd like to commit more of it to memory. And it's very encouraging in a very uncertain time (professionally). And to start... how about the beginning? 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Proverbs 3:1-2, NIV

Scripture #4

Is it seriously Feb 15? I won't complain... February is notoriously bad in schools. It's just a hard month. But I don't want it to be Feb 15 yet, because I'm just not done with my last verse! I got it memorized and I was living in it. I want to write this verse in my heart over and over again... God will give joy and peace AS I trust in him. Mmm. I love it. I know this verse will keep coming up over and over in my mind. It's been super helpful on some hard days... but they were hard days that I CHOSE to make good days, and this past verse carried me through it. But to keep up with the siestas... I'll pick a new one! We're going old school this time. When I was a camp counselor at ACU, we would have counselor Bible studies every night during Kadesh. I cherished these Bible studies (most of the time... sometimes I was exhausted and just wanted to be alone). I don't really remember a lot of them, but I vividly remember our director Bob talking about Habakku...

Romans 15:13

I am happy to report that I did a lot better with the second one! For this third verse, I want to concentrate on trust. I'm a worrier. Shocking, I know. So I went to trusty BibleGateway.com and typed in the word "trust" to see what came up. Here's what I picked to have on my heart for the next two weeks: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. " Romans 15:13, NIV Yes, please, Lord! May it be true in me.

Scripture #2!

Honestly... I didn't do a very good job of memorizing my first scripture. It was too long... I got the gist of it though, mainly the first sentence! I had hoped to be more positive by memorizing this scripture, and I think it worked. I did try to fix my thoughts on what is true. Anyway, here is my new scripture! I randomly found this one in Psalms, and I think it's a good one for right now. It's shorter and absolutely to the point. I will see the goodness of the Lord! 13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 27: 13-14 (NIV)

a year of scripture

This year as part of my goals (I don't make resolutions, those never work out!), I'm going to memorize 24 scriptures, 2 per month. Each 1st and 15th of the month, I'll do my very best to remember to post here what my new scripture is, and how it went memorizing the last one! So here's my first one. 8 ... Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8, New Living Translation
