The first job I ever had was the summer after I turned 16. Up until this point, I had claimed that I didn't really like kids. This was pretty hilarious, considering I WAS a kid. Anyway, I got a job at the Cliff Nelson Recreation Center as a day camp counselor for the 5 & 6 year old group. At 16 years old, I was responsible for a group of FIFTEEN 5 & 6 year olds. Uh, yikes. When I think about that now, I have no idea why anyone thought this was a good idea. But believe me, I learned a lot! And it really changed the direction of my life... if I hadn't worked at Cliff Nelson, I think I would be doing something completely different now. But thanks to that first job, I continued on to work with kids in just about every other job I've had! I even got to be a counselor at Kadesh when my sister was a camper. There are so many good things happening right now, that I could just burst. Happiness is wonderful, isn't it? I hope and pray that when times aren't so good, that I can still return to my happy little place on the Internet and remember that there are times for happiness and times for sadness. Let's do a bullet-point list, shall we? My new principal is fabulous. I love her, and I am so excited to work for her in August. This week I went to lunch with my new principal and just got to know her a little bit. She's a wonderful woman and seems genuinely interested in her teachers' lives and their well-being. This is so opposite of some of my previous employers so I'm excited about a boss that will get stuff done and be direct, without being rude or belittling.
