My first week as a school librarian is complete! It was a good week. I feel like I learned SO much. I did 14 thirty minute library orientations, one for each class in the school. There was a lot of trial & error involved in the orientations... but I feel like by the end of the week I knew what I was doing. I am also super thankful for my library aide. She's been at the school, mostly working in the library, for 15 years! She is such an asset for me. Another amazing thing about her is that she buys books for the library. How incredible is that?! She buys books that she likes herself, like Rick Riordan's books, then brings her copy and donates it to the library. Yesterday she bought a copy of the most recent Caldecott winner (outstanding picture book) and brought it in. It wasn't even a book that she had read, she just wanted our kids to have it. So precious. Again, I am so thankful for this job.

Today I left work early to catch my flight to Abilene. (I'm sitting on a plane on the runway in DFW waiting to get off.) When I went by her office to tell my principal that I was leaving, she gave me a huge hug and told me to tell my sister congratulations for her. Then she told me that I'm doing a great job so far and she can tell how much fun I'm having. Wow! What awesome affirmation. I needed to hear it. I am just so thankful to be working in such a positive and uplifting place. God is so good to have led me there.

I'm flying to Abilene tomorrow. Huzzah! My precious little sister is in a fabulous play and my parents were sweet enough to fly me down to get to see it. I can't believe I get to go. I am so excited! I get to spend the day with my family, then go to the play on Saturday night. I'm leaving early Sunday morning, so I won't really get to see many people, but I'm so glad to be going. But now I have to go pack...

I bought a purple lunch bag today.

I just finished one of the most exhausting work weeks ever. Part of it was because I wasn't used to working anymore... and part was because I was so busy and learning so much new stuff! But I walked out at the end of the day, and just thought to myself, "I LOVE my job!! I can't believe I get to do this!" Yes, it's stressful, and I have a ton of work to do, but I'm so thankful for this opportunity. I can't believe how blessed I am for this job!

I cannot stop laughing about this. Seriously, the first time I watched this first video, I was absolutely shaking trying to hold myself together. And then the song made with auto-tune? Omgosh. I had the best day yesterday. So in 4th grade, I met a girl named Elyssa. She was the coolest girl ever! We were best friends from just about the minute we met. We went to school and church together and spent just about every waking moment together that we could. I remember spending a TON of time at her house from 4th through 6th grade. I moved away after 6th grade, but we still kept in touch pretty well, and even went to camp together one summer in 1998 or 1999. But I haven't spent any real amount of time with her since then. She did come to my wedding with her husband, even though I had to miss hers for another one I was in on the same day. But seeing each other about 10 minutes in the last 10 years? Crazy! But yesterday, I got to spend the whole day with her. And it was awesome. Everything that made me love being her friend when we were 9 was still there.
