2013 Recap
Here's a month by month recap of our year! This was a big year, so this is a lot wordier than years past, haha.
January
I started the year by finishing out my last 2 days at my old job. Aaaaand ended up coming down with the flu the night before my last day. Awesome. I spent the 5 days between jobs laying in bed with the flu. I started my new job on the 14th! I learned so much in the first couple of weeks at my job, and the month ended with a sewage leak coming into the library that caused my teammate to have to move out of the library. Yikes! We had our first meeting with our realtor Kari when we met her on the 19th. The following weekend, Kari took us on a whirlwind tour, showing us 16 houses to give us a market education. She was amazing, so we decided to trust her to work with us as we searched for our home!
February
On the second day of February, Kari called and asked if we wanted to come see a house. It had just gone on the market, and she thought we would like it. We almost didn't go because we weren't sure about the archways in the house and it was kinda cold. Uh, good thing we went, because that was our house!! Kari let us look at the house for a couple of hours, even letter Jarrod & Rachel come over to see. We slept on it, and decided to make an offer first thing in the morning. We basically spent the rest of the month being under contract on the house, doing the inspection, appraisal, etc. It was SO STRESSFUL. We hung out with friends a few times for games and it was a good month! Hard to wait on everything, but it all worked out.
March
We waited the first two weeks of March to see that our house deal would go through. Our seller was absolutely nuts and the deal almost fell through multiple times. We had to close by the 15th to keep our interest rate (under 4%, score!), and Kari stepped up and did everything she could to make it happen. We closed on our home on March 15 and started moving in! The best thing we did was hire a painter to paint all the main areas and the ceilings. He started on the 15th while we moved in small stuff and completed everything on the 16th while we moved in everything else. Best money we spent on this move for sure. Two weeks later, Glenn and Karen came to visit and stayed with us as our first guests! It was so much fun to have them here to see it so soon. We had Easter dinner at our new house with all the Drysdales and Brad and Hannah came over too. I made mini cheesecakes!
April
I went to my very first Mavericks game on the 4th! James and Loren and Jason went with me, and it was so fun. It was a close game, and the Mavs lost by 1. Boo. April also brought some major changes at work. Our library director got a new job at the state library, and we were suddenly faced with major staffing changes in the library, on top of writing our grant renewal. So I learned how to write the grant renewal... and then I was asked to be the interim project lead for the library. Talk about a big change!! I got hired to basically do admin work and I was suddenly asked to be in a leadership role. I was absolutely thrilled to be trusted enough so soon to take this over. Jason went to his first major conference in Las Vegas and was an invited speaker! I attended my first conference for interlibrary loan (so very nerdy). I also attended my first networking event (so very awkward, haha).
May
In May, we finally got a sectional for our living room! We basically live on our couch at night, so it was amazing to have a couch where we could both lounge at the same time. We also attended the staff retreat for Jason's job... which was an experience. We did get to stay at Cheyenne Mountain Resort down in Colorado Springs, and the highlight was a beautiful walk around the pond on site with Kingsley! We also had a small get together for the new season of Arrested Development at the end of the month.
June
At the beginning of June, my parents came to visit! We had so much fun with them. We mostly played outside, throwing the frisbee and going to the park. We went to the Rockies game, and just generally enjoyed our time together. Right after they left, my whole office moved up to Vail for a week to put on our biggest event! It was so much fun and so much work, haha. There was a lot of work stuff in June!
July
For Fourth of July, Glenn & Karen came to visit! We hung out, went hiking, and played games. We celebrated Jason's 28th birthday on the 17th! I had a playdate with my friend from my old school, Barb, and her kiddos. At the end of the month, I got to go celebrate Tiffiny at her baby shower! So much fun.
August
August began with dinner with friends two nights in a row, then I spent Saturday afternoon with Glenda, getting froyo and pedicures. It is so good to be with her. The second weekend, we flew to St. Louis for Adam's wedding! It was so much fun. Really just a fantastic weekend! We got to see Jason's family, even his mom & dad who flew out and met us there. We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary while we were there. We got cannoli and just spent some wonderful time together. My new teammate started in the middle of the month, so we got her all oriented. The other awesome thing we did in August was finally upgrade to a king size bed! Woohoo! We got a beautiful new bedframe to go with our new mattress, and it's been so nice to have. I don't know how we stayed in a queen so long. Jason is tall.
September
September was a month of travel for work for me. I went up to Breckenridge for two different events. One was an exhibit for Public Health in the Rockies and the other (the following week) was for the Colorado Behavioral Healthcare Council Conference. Whew. That was a crazy couple of weeks. Rachel went with me the first time, which was awesome. We really didn't do much else because I was so slammed at work.
October
I started playing in a basketball league! I played for the whole month in a 3 on 3 women's league. It was really fun, and I was super glad that I'd already been working out a fair amount. Dang. On the 5th, we hiked up St. Mary's Glacier with James and Loren. When we had been there 2 years before, we saw the fall colors and it was gorgeous! This year... it was like a freaking blizzard. I thought we were going to blow away. It was still really fun, but a completely different experience! October also had more work events for me, but they were all in Denver. The Cardinals were also in the World Series, so we became sports fans for a couple of weeks! On Halloween, I flew to Texas!
November
I started the month with my family and friends in Texas, which was a much needed little getaway. I mostly spent time with Cayce and her baby Elijah. I also got a chance to workout with Lauren, go on a sister date with Carlee, and spend some time with my parents, grandma, and cousins. I got asked several times when I'm going to have a baby. (Yikes.) The theme of the weekend was "if you lived here..." Anyway, the rest of the month wasn't very eventful, just hanging out with friends and work. Until Thanksgiving when my parents came to visit again! They had a flight voucher that would expire so they conveniently used it to come see us. ;) We had SO much fun again, just being together. The highlight of the trip was going to the Pike National Forest to chop down our Christmas tree with the Cox family. Amazing!!
December
The first weekend of December, we were supposed to fly to Texas to see our friends that currently live in Russia. Due to an ice storm, we had to stay here. ;( It was heartbreaking. But we did get our money back and will be using it for a vacation in March, so that's helpful! Jason had an excellent interview and found out that he got a new job!! We went to Colt & Gray to celebrate, and it was an incredible meal. The next day we had all our friends over (Jarrod & Rachel, James & Loren, and Bradon) for a little Christmas get together. Everyone humored me and played Christmas pictionary, which made my night. We had cookie cake and had so much fun! For my birthday on the 19th, we went to The Oven pizza, then got froyo, then came home and watched one of my favourite movies, Love Actually. It was a wonderful night! My job gave me the whole week of Christmas off, so we enjoyed the time with Jason's parents again! We mostly just hung out again, and it was a great relaxing break from work. We celebrated the new year by staying in and going to bed early (okay, I tried to stay up, but I passed out around 11).
We are SO thankful for the year of blessings we had in 2013. We are looking forward to what 2014 brings!
