2013 Quilts!
My goal for 2013 was to finish 4 quilts. I ended up finishing one twin size for Jason, making 3 baby quilts, and making 4 tiny quilts for mug rugs. I would call that Mission Accomplished!
The first complete quilt I made this year was a very special one for a little girl named Mila. Our friends Aaron and Erin are missionaries in Russia, and they had their first baby this year! She is precious, and though we haven't gotten to meet her yet (failed trip to Texas in December... stupid ice storms.) we love her so much!
I used Moda's Simply Sweet and backed it with pink minky. Bound it with red and pink polka dot fabric from Simply Sweet. I can't remember if I used fat quarters or a precut charm pack, but I think it was fat quarters. I seem to remember cutting out these pieces.
The next quilt I made was for a very special little boy! My best friend Cayce had her first baby in July. I was absolutely thrilled to get to deliver this quilt in person. It was amazing to spend time with him, and it's pretty dang fun to see him still using it.
I used Moda's Apple Jack (2 charm packs, love precuts!) and backed it with turquoise minky dot. I was super into red with both these quilts, so I bound it with a red jack fabric from the collection. Pardon the instagram shots, I was on a deadline with this one so I didn't take any pictures with my real camera.

The final baby quilt was for another special little boy who was born just this month on MY BIRTHDAY! Woohoo! I will never forget little Josiah's birthday. We love his parents, Kyle and Liz, so I made this sweet quilt for them. It was supposed to be hand delivered as well, but it was another casualty of the ice storm in December. ;( Hopefully we will get down there soon to love on him a little bit.
This is my favourite fabric I have used yet. I used a jelly roll in Moda's Simply Style from V & Co. with a free pattern I got from Fat Quarter Shop. I'm hoping to get some more fabric of this to make a throw for our bed. Again, please pardon the Instagram pictures. ;)
Finally, I made some mug rugs for my coworkers and for my SIL and MIL for Christmas! I only got pictures of the tops for my coworkers, but you'll get the gist. These are 8 x 11 and are intended to be used as a large coaster, usually for a cup of tea!
I made two in purple and two in orange. These were for my coworkers, so the other ones are a bit different. All the fabric was from Joann, just fat quarters of each one. They were on sale for $1 each! I spent about $16 on fabric and I made 4, plus I have extra that I could probably use to make 4 more if I wanted to.
I hope to make up to 4 quilts in 2014 as well! A lot of it will depend on who else I know ends up having a baby, haha. For sure, I'd love to make a couple more quilts that are for us to use around the house. I wish we had more quilts that I kept! Everything I made this year was to give away. So I guess my goal for 2014 is to make more quilts that I can keep. Here's hoping and planning for another great year of sewing!
