2012 Goals Update

Every year, I like to go back to what my goals were for the year and do a little update as to how I did on them. Here's how I did last year!

1. Find the right job for me
You know what? I think I may have accomplished this, right at the very end of the year. It was exhausting to have my job be in jeopardy every single year I've been in education, and it's a relief to go to a "normal person job" that will hopefully just be there. I am taking a risk in leaving my school district and taking a leap to a non-profit, but I'm very hopeful that it will pay off. And that I'll be less stressed. The stress was not working for me.

2. Create something new every month
I think I almost did this! I don't know if I did something every single month, but I definitely increased my creativity a lot! I made so many things this year. Ruffle pillow, Kindle case, 2nd Kindle case and sunglasses case, mini quilt, Kingsley's bow tie, Kingsley's quilt, maxi dress, and Jason's quilt (well, I started it). Those are what I blogged, but I also made a second set of curtains for our back door, which I guess I never photographed. I hope to keep it up this year, probably with more quilts.

3. Continue decorating the townhouse
I did okay on this. Jason is actually better at decorating than me, so I should just accept that, haha. I did make curtains for us for the back door, and we got some new art. But Jason put it all up. We did rearrange the office to make it work better for us! So that's good. Now we're thinking about buying a house, so we've pretty much stopped changing things here at the townhouse.

4. Exercise regularly and build my strength
Mission accomplished!! Starting in May, I exercised 5-6 times a week, and I've built a lot of strength. I started off barely able to do pushups on my knees, and I now I can do 30 on my toes (in sets of 10). Awesome. I also dropped a pants size over the summer, and I've been maintaining it since then. I'm sticking to the schedule, but I'm reassessing what my goals will be this year. But definitely, I accomplished this goal and more this year. I'm very proud!

5. Read 50+ books
Yeah, this didn't happen. I ended up reading 34. Even with the chapter books I read for my review committee. Boo. I spent most of the year exhausted from my two jobs, so I'll use that as a partial excuse. Also, I really love TV, and that's what I chose to spend my time doing instead. Oh well.

6. Put things away (and turn off lights)
Sadly, I don't think I'm much better at this than I was last year. I'm maybe a tiny bit better, but I think this will have to be one I continue working on. If anyone has any tips, that would be fantastic... I am just so bad.

7. Live more disconnected and in the moment
I think for the most part, I did this much better than I have before. I spent more time doing constructive things than mindless things. I think I've laxed a bit on this the last couple of months, so I'm hoping to get better at it again as I start my new job.

All in all, I feel pretty good about my work for my goals this year. I feel like I ended the year in a better place than where I started, and that's what counts, right? I'll post my goals for 2013 once I do some more thinking about them. Happy New Year!
