Fitness Update

Oh I know you've been anxiously awaiting Level 3 of 30 Day Shred, but I'm going to disappoint you. I haven't done it even ONCE.

After I finished Level 2 of the 30 Day Shred, summer started! Summer didn't mean that I stopped working out... but it did mean I had a lot more time. Instead of doing 20 minutes of the shred every day, I've been working out consistently 6 days a week for an hour. It is fabulous to have so much time!

I'm actually still doing all the strength moves in 30 Day Shred. I skip the cardio minutes and do another strength exercise during that time. Then I do cardio outside in the park OR I spend my cardio time with my very favourite... Leslie Sansone.

I've been working out with Leslie's videos for about 10 years now. Oh yikes, that's a long time! That's right, since I was in high school. The very first time I lost significant weight was by walking 3 miles with Leslie every day for weeks. It works! I'm back to using her videos on days that it's too hot to go outside. She is fabulous and she's finally got videos that also include high intensity intervals. So good!

I've also started tracking my eating and exercise using the My Fitness Pal App on my smartphone. Guys. I love this app. It even has the ability for me to put in my own recipes so that I can even figure out how many calories are in things I make at home. I love it! It has made a huge difference for me. I put in my stats and the app tells me how many calories I can have. I put in my exercise for the day as well, and then it will give me more calories.

(not my log, just a picture I found online! I don't get that many calories, haha)

I'm so happy to be able to say that I've already lost a little over 1 pound doing this. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but when my goal is only losing about 8 pounds, it's a big deal! I am only a couple of pounds away from the high end of a healthy weight for my height (5'5"), so every fraction of a pound is a battle.

More than the weight though (I would probably be happy staying at my current weight for a long time), I'm focusing on my health and strength. I want to feel strong and powerful, and I want to eat healthy things that help my body instead of hurt it. I want to have good habits to pass on to my future hypothetical children. I want to be in the best shape of my life when I have kids someday! I want to have energy every day like I did when I was first starting the Shred. I want to be strong, but still curvy. I want to feel confident in whatever I feel like wearing.

I'm happy that some of these things are already coming. I'm making a lot more food at home that we used to buy out from restaurants or super processed at the grocery. I'm consistently working out, even when it hurts (which I totally hate, but it's super satisfying to see change). I'm wearing shorts for the first time in YEARS that aren't down to my knees. My clothes are feeling more loose, and I feel confident wearing a tanktop for the first time in a long time. I've only been working this hard consistently for about three weeks, so I'm excited to see what happens for the rest of the summer.

This is getting rambly now, but I'm so excited! I feel so good, and I know it will only get better as I get stronger. These are the days I need to remember when it gets hard.
