Scripture #4
Is it seriously Feb 15? I won't complain... February is notoriously bad in schools. It's just a hard month. But I don't want it to be Feb 15 yet, because I'm just not done with my last verse! I got it memorized and I was living in it. I want to write this verse in my heart over and over again... God will give joy and peace AS I trust in him. Mmm. I love it. I know this verse will keep coming up over and over in my mind. It's been super helpful on some hard days... but they were hard days that I CHOSE to make good days, and this past verse carried me through it.
But to keep up with the siestas... I'll pick a new one! We're going old school this time. When I was a camp counselor at ACU, we would have counselor Bible studies every night during Kadesh. I cherished these Bible studies (most of the time... sometimes I was exhausted and just wanted to be alone). I don't really remember a lot of them, but I vividly remember our director Bob talking about Habakkuk 3, when Habakkuk chooses to praise God, even when everything has gone to crap. Maybe I'll memorize a couple of verses of Habakkuk's prayer, but I'm going to start with the first verse of chapter 3. I'm taking it from The Message this time, because I love the way it sounds conversational.
"God, I've heard what our ancestors say about you,
and I'm stopped in my tracks, down on my knees.
Do among us what you did among them.
Work among us as you worked among them.
And as you bring judgment, as you surely must,
remember mercy. " Habakkuk 3:2, The Message
God, we know your faithfulness. Do among us what you did among our ancestors! And please, have mercy on us, though we don't deserve it. Thank you for your endless grace.
